About Circumcision
Most circumcisions are carried out for the family, cultural or religious reasons, however, it is also performed for purely medical reasons. No matter the motivation, parents should consider the possible risks and benefits of this operation.
Local anaesthetic
Our neo-natal circumcisions are performed in only a matter of minutes using a long-acting local anaesthetic and with sucrose given orally during the procedure to ensure there is no pain.
Benefits & risk
Benefits of circumcision include lowering the risk of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS, and urinary tract infections, as well as eliminating the risk of infection of the foreskin.
Prior to the circumcision, Dr Demediuk will provide you with a detailed explanation of the procedure and an opportunity to clarify any issues or concerns. A referral is not required.
As with any surgical procedure, circumcision carries some risk. Complications are uncommon but may include pain, infection and bleeding.
